Lanthanum-doped lead titanate thin films with perovskite phase were fabricated by sol-gel spin-on process. Effect of lanthanum doping on the crystal structure, film orientation, microstructure, and ferroelectric/dielectric properties of the films were studied. The films showed various degrees of (100) orientation, depending mainly on the substrate used and the La content. The addition of La caused changes in the film microstructure. Rosettes distributed in a matrix were observed for the (Pb_<0.7>La_<0.2>)TiO_3 films. The dielectric constant of the films generally increased with the increasing La content and the heating temperature. (Pb_<0.7>La_<0.2>)TiO_3 film heated at 800℃ has a dielectric constant of about 650.
