An application study of the composite quarter-wave plate was carried out for the Senarmont's compensator method. The composite quarter-wave plate transforms Iinearly polarized light to a polarized state in a manner similar to that of the quarter-wave plate, thus it could also be used for Senarmont's compensator. Using this method, retardation of a phase plate can be measured for the entire visible light region.
