Relaxation processes and thermal properties of form II poly (vinylidene fluoride) were studied by dielectric, dynamic mechanical, and DSC methods above 200 K. Three mechanical relaxations, α_<ml>, α<mm>, and α_<mh>, were observed above room temperature. The α_<ml> relaxation was assigned to the dielectric α relaxation. The α_<mm> relaxation was suggested to be related to the grain-boundary slip process. The α_<mh> relaxation was assigned to the molecular motion associated with premelting of form II crystals. An endothermic transition, T_r, which was related to the melting of paracrystalline regions existing at lamellar surfaces, was also found.
