A model of the coupling of a laser emitting diode (LED) with domed structure and a multimode gradient-index fiber using high numerical aperture (NA) planar microlenses (PML) is analyzed by means of geometrical optics. The relative positions of LED, PML and fiber for maximizing efficiency are determined.
