The characteristics of decomposed granite soils are, from the point of view of engineering, so unusual that their properties can not be adequately represented by conventional methods such as the unified classification system or the AASHO classification system. In the present paper an attempt is made to apply the authors' classification scheme in which the specific gravity of feldspar indicates the degree of weathering and the amount of coloured minerals is related to the variation of mineral composition. Also presented in the paper is the result of a detailed examination of the effect of cement admixture on the decomposed granite soils.
