Design and performance of a single channel pulse height analyzer of gain sweep type are described. The analyzer has a constant fractional channel width. The amplifier gain is varied discretely by a precision attenuator. When automatic operation of the analyzer is intended, pulses coming from a differential discriminator are counted by a storage counter and the dc output at the end of a cycle is held constant in the analog memory in the next cycle for the recorder display. Thus the spectrum is recorded in the histogram form.
