The electrical and photoconducting properties of chemically deposited CdS thin layers have been studied. The contact characteristics of these layers show that ohmic contacts are obtained using indium contacts. The space charge limited currents have been measured using both D.C. and pulse techniques for field strengths upto 10^4 volts/cm. The similarity in behaviour between crystals and chemically deposited layers is demonstrated. New transient current effects associated with traps have been recorded and a mechanism has been proposed. The response time to light pulses has been found to be faster than that of sintered layers.
