Dark conductivity and photocurrent relaxations in CdS chemically deposited layers have been studied. The ionisation energies are comparable with those of CdS crystals. Photocurrent relaxations show the presence of both shallow and deep traps which are selectively filled depending on the temperature region. 'Blue shift' is observed froms spectral resronse study of both doped and undoped samples, compared to CdS crystals, which is in close agreement with spectral absorption edge indicating a band gap of 2.5 ev. It is found from the examination of undoped CdS deposits by electron diffraction that they are polycrystalline in nature and consist of a mixture of 'α' (hexagonal) and 'β' (cubic) forms of CdS.
