The photoconductivity of CdS crystals with Mylar blocking electrodes was measured in alternating field in the absence of space charge. Measurements of the a.c. photocurrent as a function of frequency are compared with a simple theory based on surface trapping. The frequency dependence of a specimen under illumination is described by its dielectric relaxation time. Saturation of the true a.c. photocurrent is observed and explained by the schubweg of photo-electrons. The trapping time of photo-electrons is estimated from the saturation curve. The photoconductivities of a specimen in both a.c. and d.c. fields were measured for different electrodes between 300°K and 83°K. The results are discussed from the point of view of electon-injection.
