High-Pressure Synthesis of Perovskite Type RInO_3(R=Eu, Gd, and Dy)

The stability regions of RInO_3 (R=Eu, Gd, and Dy) with perovskite structure have been studied over the temperature range 700 to 1200℃ at pressure up to 90 kbar with the aid of the tetrahedral press. The stable pressure (kbar) and temperature (℃) of perovskite structure were determined as P>9+0.07T for EuInO_3, P>20+0.07T for GdInO_3, and P>146-0.08T for DyInO_3. At normal pressure, rare earth indium garnet R_3(R_<1-x>In_<1+x>)In_3O_<12> has never been synthesized, even through garnets solid solutions were synthesized at high pressure. The measurement of magnetic susceptibility of GdInO_3 and DyInO_3 of perovskite type was carried out in the temperature range from 77 K to room temperature. Temperature variations of magnetic susceptibility for GdInO_3 and DyInO_3 follow Curie-Wiess law at temperatures above 150 K, with the effective Bohr magnetons of 5.83±0.17μ_B for GdInO_3 and 9.03±0.05 μ_B for DyInO_3.
