The equilibrium of a plasma confined in shell-less tokamak devices is strongly influenced by the leakage magnetic field from the iron core. The strength of the vertical comonent of the leakage magnetic field is of the same order of magnitude as the equilibrating vertical field. A method of measuring such a leakage magnetic field in the presence of a simulated plasma current is described. Measurements are made by using a model core of a tokamak device (JFT-2).
