The pulse height distribution for the photomultiplier noise under a normalized gain was investigated as a function of P.C.-D.1. voltage with two types of 7 in. diameter tubes. (20^<th> Century: VMP/11/170 and E.M.I. 9623) The two types of tubes showed very different characteristics which were ascribed to the difference in electron-optical structure of P.C.-D.1. system. VMP/11/170 tubes showed an optimal S/N ratio at about 150V which could be explained by change in tube gain variance with the voltage. Noise spectra for 9623 tubes were critically dependent upon the potentials of two focusing electrodes. Some possible mechanisms for noise variations with 9623 are briefly discussed.
