Large-scale unsteady motion of flows, such as Karman vortex, often appears in the fluid machinery and sometimes causes a structural damage. Hence an accurate prediction of the motion is one of the essential desires in the design process. A numerical simulation is usually employed for this purpose, and Reynolds averaging method (i.e. RANS) is applied to the turbulent flows even with such unsteadiness. However, in the case of unsteady computation, time averaged turbulence model has a fundamental problem in the definition of averaging procedure. Previously, we proposed a modified RANS model suitable for unsteady computation. In the present study, we analyze an unsteady turbulent flow around a 2-dimensional cylinder. The availability of the modified model is verified by comparing the results among the models and some experimental data.
