Production control in shipbuilding has been relying considerably upon the personal skill based on the experience in the past. However, in order to aim at the supreme efficiency under any given circumstances, the shipyard should have some logically deterministic method for controlling the operation, which does not excessively depend on the intuition of the management personnel. This paper is intended to present one of such methods of practical use, developed by the author and named SASP (Sasebo Scheduling Programme). As the total optimization of the whole constructing work of a ship is supposed to be closely connected with the optimum process of the erection stage, the planning procedure at this stage only is mentioned in the first place in this report.
