Penetrating tests on two types of solid bow models (raked stem and vertical stem) against two types of 1/15 scale collision barrier models of nuclear powered ships, were conducted, and the following problems were investigated. 1. Cutting off point of shell plate. 2. Difference between the raked stem and the vertical one at the energy absorption of the collision barriers during its penetration. 3. Anti-collision ability of deck plate after cutting off of shell plate. A summary of the results of the investigation is as follows ; 1. The location of cutting off point of shell plate is affected by the frame space, the rigidity of frame and the thickness of shell plate. 2. Raked stem of striking vessel is not so dangerous compared with vertical stem. 3. Energy absorption of deck plate after cutting off of shell plate can not be negligible. 4. Approximate formulas for calculation of the absorbed energy in collision barrier models were derived semi-empirically.
