The feature of the stern wave flow affected by mutual interaction of "waves" with "boundary layer-wake" is numerically studied. The external wave field is calculated by Guilloton's method. In the boundary layer-wake calculation, an integral method is employed. The concept of displacement thickness is introduced to calculate the viscid-inviscid interaction. A simple mathematical hull form is served for the investigation. Results are compared with experiments and followings are obtained. Stern wave generation and boundary layer-wake growth depend on Froude number. Some periodical change of boundary layer-wake growth is closely related with the mode of incoming bow wave motion at the stern. The displacement thickness aft of the stern end increases due to the wave motion. The wave resistance reduction is remarkable at the speed from hollow to hump of wave resistance curve.
