Nuclear design is indispensable to the development of fusion reactors. Radiation shielding analysis is the main theme in nuclear design of fusion facilities. Principal subjects in radiation shielding are to protect facility itself and human bodies from radiation. Protection for superconductive magnets is one of the most important subjects in the former. In the latter, it is important to estimate radiation distribution during operation and after shutdown, and to evaluate biological shield thickness from the view point of personal exposure. Shielding design examples in ITER-CDA and -EDA, SSTR and ARIES are explained in the present section.
