In designing complex systems, it is difficult to apply design methods based on reductionism. We proposed a design method based on emergence (emergent design). The emergent design consists of the generation process and the optimization process. In the present study, many methods for the optimization process are proposed. This study attempted, therefore, to construct the system for the generation process. The objective of this system is to obtain unknown and diverse candidates for design solutions. In order to obtain solutions, genetic algorithm (GA) was used as the basis of the proposed system, and the proposed form-generation method was constructed by expanding cellular automata (CA). It is possible to generate unknown and diverse forms without an initial form.
