About the distribution of Morus Plants in Hokkaido, I divided Hokkaido into two sections, the eastern and the western sections, according to the meteorological and the geographical conditions. The eastern section is the east tract of the line connecting MT. Daisetu, the Kitami mountains, Mt. Tokati, and the Hidaka mountains. In the Otuku district of the eastern section, we can't easily find any distribution of mulberry trees, except in the east part of this district where we find some of them growing here and there. In the Pacific district, quite a few mulberry trees are scattered in the Obihiro and Ikeda regions, but the distribution is quite poor in other regions. The highest limit of vertical distribution in the eastern section is 480 m from the sea-level at Mt. Daisetu. The western section is the west tract of the Kitami and Hidaka mountains and is superior to the eastern section in meteorological conditions. Especially in the Peninsula district of the Hokkaido weather zone, there are many thick distribution regions where we find dense groves of mulberry trees. The weather conditions for the growth of mulberry trees are not so good in the Pacific district as in the Peninsula district, and also the distribution in this district is inferior to the one of the Peninsula district. The weather conditions in the Japan Sea district are, in general, superior to the ones in the Pacific district, and better distribution of mulberry trees is found in this district. Especially in the Kamikawa region, the region connecting Asahigawa and Fukugawa, the vicinity of Sapporo city, the region along Ozawa, Kuttian, and Kyogoku, and the strip of land along the sea shore from Yoiti to Syakotan, there are very good distribution districts with dense groves of mulberry trees. In Saghalian, we find a few mulberry trees on the west side of the central mountain range and on Kaiba Island. The north limit of the distribution of the trees is the Tomarii region, whose latitude is 48°20'. Kitakotan is located a little south of Tomarii, and the average temperature of Kitakotan from April to October is 11°C. From this fact, we presume that the lowest temperature in which M. bombycis can grow is about 10°C. Only very few mulberry trees are growing in the Kurile Islands. The north limit of the distribution of mulberry trees is Kunasiri Island, and at present, a few of them are distributed in the Ponkotan and Tomarii regions of the island.
