To raise the efficiency of the current traffic signal control systems, it is necessary to operate not only macroscopic coordinated control but also microscopic real-time control for congested intersections. We propose a microscopic signal control method to adjust signal split at a critical intersection. We have done simulation experiments using a system simulator, ARENA. In the first simulation experiment, we obtained the optimal common cycle lengths in coordinated control. The results in the second simulation show that the proposed method follows the optimal split even if the traffic inflow patterns change, and prevents increasing the delay. The idea proposed in this paper can also be applied to the queuing network problems which appear in business scenes.
