• The notion of using Information Technology (IT) as a weapon that enhances and creates a business strategy has become commonplace. In such perspective, IT is regarded as a strategic resource or a source of competitive advantage. However, as IT has been widely spread in organization, it has also become a fundamental enabler in transforming organizational process and structure. Recently, the need to integrate these two roles of IT, a creator of business strategy and a enabler of organizational transformation, is recognized in IT planning, strategy planning, and organization design. This paper suggests an alignment model that focuses on these distinctive roles of IT.
