1. A fairly good synchronization of Scenedesmus cells was obtained by transferring the cells grown in a medium containing a low concentration of iron into a medium containing relatively high concentration of iron. 2. During the synchronous culture in the mineral medium, a good parallelism between the average cell volume and hydrogenase activity was observed. 3. Effect of glucose on the development of the hydrogenase activity was variable depending on the stage of algal growth. 4. Iron is essential for the development of the hydrogenase activity and glucose supplementary.
