Effects of night-interruption on the aerial tuber formation of Begonia evansiana Andr. were investigated. Among colored lights tested, red light was most effective to reduce the photoperiodic response. It inhibited tuberization almost completely at low intensities. The red light-action was partially reversed by subsequent blue or far-red irradiation under the 12-hour daylength, and the relation between the red and the blue or far-red lights was reversible. No reversal, however, was observed under the 8-hour daylength. The inhibitory action of red light remained unchanged on irradiating with red, blue or far-red light before the night periods.
