A chloroform extract of peelings and buds of 'Red Pontiac' potato tubers ylelded chromatographic eluates that exhibited qualitatively and quantitatively different stimulating and inhibiting responses on four bioassays. The essentiality of selecting a satisfactory array of bioassays, coupled with a thorough extraction procedure, is emphasized.
