Immunoblot analysis using a monoclonal antibody specific to phytochrome B (phyB) suggest that this protein is undetectable in the hy3 mutant of Arabidopsis. Photophysiological experiments revealed that hy3 mutants do not display end-of-day far-red growth responses. Thus, this particular phytochrome response seems to be mediated in large part by phyB.
