This paper describes an experimental chamber suitable for inducing cell fusion by an electric field and for measuring the rotational behaviour of single protoplasts and fusion products in high-frequency rotating fields. Intact protoplasts from Avena sativa L. leaves rotate before, during and after fusion, as demonstrated by the rotation spectra of cells. The electrorotation technique allows electrical properties of fused cells to be examined within a second after applying the fusion pulse.
