A new method is proposed for separating different cell types by application of a rotating electric field technique. Plasma membrance electrical properties and cell size are critical parameters for call separation. A suitable chamber is described and the theoretical and experimental aspects of cell movement are presented. Kalanchoe daigremontina mesophyll protoplasts traveled with a velocity of about 3-7 μm/s on the agar surface at a field strength of 3.5×10^3 V/m.
