Oxygen-evolving photosystem II-phycobilisome particles from a red alga were inhibited 50-80% by aging, dilution, low pH and salt-washing. Bovine serum albumin, and dithiothreitol were found to stimulate activity in ail but salt-washed particles. CaCl_2 and MnCl_2 partially restored activity lost after aging or dilution.
