An NADP^+-dependent sorbitol dehydrogenase that catalyzes sorbitol and glucose was found in apple leaves. The partially purified enzyme had optimum activity at pH 9.6 and a K_m value of 128 mM for sorbitoL. Among the polyols studied, this enzyme showed the most activity for sorbitol.
