The relative contributions of cytochrome (Cyt) oxidase, cyanide-insensitive oxidase and residual oxidase to the total respiration of isolated leaf cells were determined in order to integrate them into a mathematical model. During cell incubation, the contribution of cyanide-insensitive oxidase decreased whereas the latent activity of the enzyme increased. Carbonyl cyanide m-chlorophenyl-hydrazone mainly stimulated the Cyt oxidase activity but did not release the latent activity of cyanide-insensitive oxidase.
