Electron transport in spinach chloroplasts treated with cholate or Tris in the presence and absence of 20% glycerol was measured. Glycerol suppressed the inhibitory action of cholate and Tris on the donor side of photosystem 11 and also restored the Hill activity previously lowered by cholate. This restoration required the cholate-extract from the chloroplasts.
