With slight modifications, conventional assay procedures for K^+, Na^+, Ca^<2+^gt;, Mg^<2+^gt; Cl^-, NO_3^-, H_2PO_4-, fructose and fructose-yielding saccharides, and glucose were applicable to the extract of Phaseolus pulvini. About 10 ml of a hot-water extract from about 30 mg fresh weight of the pulvini was sufficient for separate measurement of the ions and saccharides named above.
