The apical portions of intact sunflower leaves were infiltrated with ^<14>C-glucose, ^<14>C-fructose or 3-O-methyl-^<14>C-glucose and the basal portions were treated with inhibitors. The effects of oligomycin, ouabain and phlorizin on translocation were studied. Inhibition of translocation from the basal portion of the leaf to the stem was determined by experiments using oligomycin. In other experiments, each leaf was divided into three parts. The apical portion was fed with ^<14>C-glucose and the basal part treated with oligomycin. The effects of oligomycin on the distribution of ^<++>C-glucose, ^<14>C-sucrose, ^<14>C-fructose and ^<14>C-sugar phosphate along the three parts of the leaf were investigated. Inhibition of sucrose synthesis in the leaves treated with oligomycin was observed. Oligomycin inhibited ^<14>C translocation from the leaf.
