Regreening of glucose-bleached cells of Chlorella protothecoides is stimulated by light. Spectral effectiveness in the process showed maxima around 370, 440 and 480 nm, suggesting a flavoprotein as primary photoreceptor. Action spectra of ALA synthesis proved to be similar to those of chlorophyll formation, indicating that light stimulation of greening in this alga is regulated at the first step of chlorophyll biosynthesis.
