The membrane potential of Nitella internode shows a spontaneous rhythmicity. The period depends largely upon temperature and the length of the cell. Moreover, the period is reversibly prolonged at low temperature and also by treatment with cytochalasin B. We coucluded that this bioelectrical rhythm is closely related to cytoplasmic streaming.
