"Giant" cells of the Emerson strain of Chlorella are deficient in certain peptide amino acids as compared with normally growing cells. "Giant" cell peptides lack aspartic acid, glutamic acid and alanine (major peptide amino acids in dividing cells) although all three are present in "giant" cells as free amino acids and in the protein fraction.
