Radiobiological effects of gamma rays on seeds, seedlings and callus tissues of Pharbitis nil were investigated. Striking differences in radiosensitivity were observed among the three types. Seedlings treated with doses between 2 and 12 Kr showed such morphological effects as stunted growth of the hypocotyl, severe inhibition of root formation and of the development of true leaves. Low dose irradiation of seeds resulted in a positive stimulation in seedling height. Higher doses, however, proved lethal; seed germination was inhibited and in seedlings the leaves became chlorotic and development was arrested. Callus tissues were more resistant to radiation and could withstand doses up to 30 Kr.
