Choline chloride, tetraalkylammonium chloride and aminoalcohol show preservative effects on photosynthetic activities in spinach chloroplasts against deterioration after isolation, when one of them is present in the medium used for isolating and storing chloroplasts within the concentration range between 0.1 and 0.5M. Any of these chemicals cause uncoupling to some extent if present in the. reaction medium.
