Pollen viability in 31 organic solvents was studied. Pollen grains of Camellia japonica which had been soaked in 28 organic solvents for 3 days retained their viability and grains in 19 solvents such as ethyl acetate, n-amyl alcohol and petroleum ether grew longer pollen tubes than fresh pollen.
