1. Four kinds of GA, GA_1, GA_2, GA_3 and GA_4, all inhibited sprouting in aerial tubers of Begonia evansiana. 2. The sprout-inhibiting action of GA increased with incubation in a high O_2 concentration, and decreased in a low O_2 concentration. 3. Inhibition of sprouting by GA was reduced by incubation in the presence of p-nitrophenol, resorcinol, salicylaldoxime, 2,4-dinitrophenol, sodium azide and cycloheximide. 4. The higher activity of polyphenol oxydase was observed in a homogenate of GA treated tubers. 5. Existence of counteracting two systems which were activated by GA was considered.
