Kinetin and the embryo axis acted similarly in bringing about a promotion of amylase activity in cotyledons of Phaseolus vulgaris. No promotive effect of gibberellic acid or indole-3-acetic acid on amylase activity could be detected. It is suggested that the regulatory action of the embryo axis on starch degradation in the cotyledons of P. vulgaris is mediated by cytokinins.
