Long days and warm temperatures favored a build up of potato foliage protein and 4S RNA, but these constituents increased markedly in response to a combination of short days and cool temperatures. This was accompanied by a slight increase in cold resistance. Short-term low molecular weight RNA changes in response to environment may reflect a control system in which it plays a regulatory role.
