By growing Chlorella ellipsoidea synchronously by the technique of TAMIYA et al. with some modifications, it was demonstrated that cellular division of ripened cells (L_2- and L_3-cells) in the dark is specifically inhibited-especially strongly at pH 6.3-by cupric ion present in the medium. The possible attack site of cupric ion in cellular division of this alga is discussed.
