At about the end of the 8c., the Japanese sculpture changed its phases from Tenpyo Style to Jogan Style. In the meantime, that the capital, Heijokyo in Nara was transfered to the land of Kyoto, is also noticeable. So, many scholars have searched for the problems of Heijokyo and the Tenpyo sculpture relationally, also Heiankyo and Jogan sculpture. But, the present writer want to investigate the Heijokyo's significant influence upon the rise of Jogan Style, by the special references to the wood-sculptures of the Toshodaiji school.
