One of the most important problems in analytic aesthetics, is about the definition of terms ('art' or 'beauty' etc.), for these terms have not only a linguistic ambiguity in general, but also the ambiguity which is caused by aesthetic value. But as the methodological character of analytic aesthetics changes from emotivism (Ayer) to contextualism (Wittgenstein), this difficult problem of definition has been being solved by and by. The definition of aesthetic terms is not real (such as Hegel's or Croce's), but contextual, because they contain various meanings according to their context. And so the ideal formulation of their definition should be a disjunction that connects various meanings with 'or' (A B C). But in the actual description of aesthetical theories, the meaning of terms is determined definitely owing to a certain pragmatic purpose for which the aesthetician uses his terms. That is, the definition becomes closed in spite of its open character. And yet this closed definition is never a real one, but is always a contextual one, because there remain some pragmatic variables (type of user, intention, circumstances, ……etc.) in this closed definiton.
