Two types of blue organic light emitting diodes(OLEDs)and one type of red OLED have been prepared. The structures of two types blue OLEDs are ITO/CuPc/NPB/TPBi/Alq/Mg:Ag, in which the TPBi having high ionization potential functions as a hole-blocking and electron transport layer, and ITO/CuPc/NPB/DPVBi:perylene/Alq/Mg:Ag(CuPc:Copper phthalocyanine, NPB:N, N'-bis-(1-naphthyl)-N, N'-diphenyl-1, 1'-biphenyl-4, 4'-diamine, TPBi: trimer of N-arylbenzimidazoles, Alq: tris-(8-quinolinolato)aluminium, DPVBi: 4, 4'-bis(2, 2-diphenylvinyl)-1, 1'-biphenyl). In the former blue OLED, EL spectrum originating from the NPB layer with the CIE color coordinates x=0.11, y=0.085, a maximum luminance of 3700cd/m^2 and the maximum luminous efficiency of 0.781m/W are obtained. In the latter blue OLED, EL spectrum coming from perylene with the CIE color coordinates x=0.15, y=0.18, a maximum luminance of 6123cd/m^2 and the maximum luminous efficiency of 0.83lm/W are achieved. For the red OLED with a structure of ITO/CuPc/NPB/Alq:DCJT/Mg:Ag, the maximum luminance and maximum luminous efficiency are 4687cd/m^2 and 0.831m/W respectively, corresponding to a light emission from dopant DCJT with the CIE color coordinates x=0..63, y=0.37. Two types of blue OLEDs show quite different durability. While the red OLED exhibits high durability and its half-life reaches 7500 h at the initial luminance of 50 cd/m^2. Luminance and durability characteristics of those OLEDs are well explained and compared.
