A strong-base anion exchange resin was mixed with a porous polymer gel modified with hydroxy group to control the exchange capacity, and packed into a small column (3 mm i.d.×50 mm). Anions in a sample solution were separated by this column, by using 0.01 M Na_2CO_3 as an eluent. After passing through a suppressor column, anions were detected by conductometry. By this method, F^-, Cl^-, Br^-, NO_3^-, PO_4^<5-> and SO_4^<2-> were determined within 15 min. Their detection limits and the coefficient of variation of the method were 0.01-0.8 ppm, and 0.9-1.3%, respectively. By use of the flask combustion technique together with this method, organic halogens (F, Cl, Br) and sulfur were determined.
