The paper describes an electron spin resonance (ESR) study on the interaction of oxygen with ZnO, TiO_2 and ZrO_2 during photoirradiation. Photoadsorption and photodesorption of oxygen were investigated on these oxides with simultaneous measurements of the ESR spectra due to adsorbed oxygen and of the residual oxygen pressure. Significance of the role of neutral oxygen present on the surface for the photoresponses was emphasized.
