Using the capture-recapture method, the internidal movement of workers was confirmed in the microgyne form of Myrmica ruginodis. The drifting ratio (total number of visits per total number of individuals recaptured) was 7.4%. At least 12 nests in the 3 m×5 m surveyed area seemed interconnected with each other mainly through runways. From these observations, the microgyne form was considered to form a polydomous system. During the period of nuptial flight, endogamous matings occurred around nests and mated queens returned to their mother nests. Thus, it is likely that the polygynous state of the microgyne form is attained by a type of secondary polygyny.
