The sexual behavior of this species is initiated by the male's response to the conspecific individual, which is first of all released by the color of the undersurface of wings of both sexes. However, since male and mated female adults respond to an approaching male with the flutter response, which is a behavior to vibrate wings mincingly, the copulation is prevented mechanically. On the other hand, virgin female adults show a motionless posture, so that a series of mating behavior is released and the copulation takes place. It seems reasonable that a difference of behavior pattern plays an essential role in the male's recognition of a proper mate.
